“Police officers want to focus on one thing only – keeping the people of Fort Collins safe. A collective bargaining process with independent arbitration makes sure we get a fair deal and protects us from politics or personality conflicts that might interfere with our ability to do our job. The Professional Policing Initiative helps cops fight crime.”

Scott Goff, President, FOP Lodge #3

“Keeping Fort Collins safe should be our city government’s top priority. But they’ve let police compensation slip behind other jurisdictions while ignoring voters who’ve said we want collective bargaining. Let’s ensure a professional police force and safe streets in Fort Collins by making this part of the city charter this year.”

Help Us Keep Fort Collins Safe From Crime

Support the Professional Policing Initiative

The best way to fight crime... a high-quality police force.

In Fort Collins, we pride ourselves on our safe streets and neighborhoods. The city government shouldn’t have any higher priority than keeping us safe from crime.

The best way to do that is to do everything we can to attract and keep the best police officers we can.

To achieve that goal, the Professional Policing Initiative would establish a system of collective bargaining and independent arbitration that helps us keep an effective, professional police force. It sets up a simple and fair system for handling pay and workplace issues that will help us keep pace with other jurisdictions and keep politics, favoritism and personal disputes out of the process.

Fair Treatment for Police Officers

Police officers who put their lives on the line for our city every day deserve fair treatment. And Fort Collins voters have supported them, passing an independent arbitration plan in the last election.

But the city government has ignored the will of the voters and the demands of public safety, refusing to implement the new law.

The Professional Policing Initiative will amend the city charter to ensure that Fort Collins’ public safety professionals are given the respect they deserve.

Sensible City Management

Collective bargaining and independent arbitration are recognized as the most sensi- ble way to keep police officers and city officials focused on law enforcement, not workplace issues. That’s why it’s used in nearly every U.S. city of Ft. Collins’ size, and most large jurisdictions in Colorado.
