| Undersheriff Stretcher and Chief Lawrence Bass, of the Boulder Police Department, were killed in an automobile accident while responding to a fire. The Buick they were driving was only two days old and was the department's first police car. As they entered the intersection of 19th and Pearl Streets they collided with the city's first fire truck. Chief Bass and a civilian occupant of the police car were killed in the accident. Undersheriff Stretcher, also an occupant of the vehicle, succumbed to his injuries four days later. |

| Deputy Meyer was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a suspect wanted for robbery in Chicago, Illinois. The suspect was seen to be staying Red Cliff, Colorado, and Deputy Meyer was notified. He observed the suspect leaving and began to follow him. When Deputy Meyer was finally able to force the vehicle to stop the suspect exited and shot him in the chest twice. The suspect then stole Deputy Meyer's car and fled. He was arrested and sentenced to life in prison. In 1969 he escaped from a prison honor camp and was shot and killed in a shootout with Denver police officers. |

Officers from Deputy Clark's agency had setup a roadblock in an attempt to stop the suspect. The man rammed one of the cars and fled on foot with Deputy Clark in pursuit. During the pursuit the suspect shot Deputy Clark in the face, killing him. |

Marshal Eyser was shot and killed during a bootlegging investigation. He had gone to a local boarding house and told two suspects that he was going to search their room. One of the men pulled out a handgun and fatally wounded Marshal Eyser, who was able to return fire and wound the suspect. A stray bullet fired by the suspect also killed an innocent bystander. The suspect was sentenced to life but escaped the following year.

Deputy Sass was killed in an automobile accident on U.S. 287 while he and a fellow deputy were en route to a department shooting range.
A vehicle collided into the passenger side of their patrol car as they turned left off of U.S. 287. Deputy Sass, who was a passenger in the car, was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The other deputy was injured in the accident.
Deputy Sass had served with the Larimer County Sheriff's Department for 4.5 years, and was assigned to the Larimer County Detention Center. |

Deputy Conrad and Deputy Sumner Whitney were shot and killed while attempting to arrest a gang of men who had robbed a hotel and several prominent citizens. Deputy Conrad was deputized by the Summit County sheriff in order to arrest the men at their remote cabin in Kokomo, Colorado. When Deputy Conrad arrived in the town he deputized Sumner Whitney to help with the arrest.
After gaining entry to the cabin the deputies ordered the men two return the stolen property but were instead engaged in a gun battle. Deputy Conrad was shot and killed instantly and Deputy Whitney succumbed to his wounds several weeks later. Two of the robbers were also shot and killed by the leader of the gang escaped. |

As Deputy Bucher approached the house, the man stuck a shotgun out of the door and shot him in the head.
The suspect then stole Deputy Bucher's gun and pinned Deputy Bucher's badge onto his own clothing. He was still wearing the badge when he was located by a posse. The man was shot and killed by the posse in a shootout that lasted more than one hour. |
